Dear Doctor,

I am Dilani Lokuhetty, the new Head of the WHO Classification of Tumours Programme (WCT) at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France. I have been a practising pathologist, using WCT books in my practice, for more than two decades prior to my recent appointment. Now as the Head of WCT, I have been entrusted with taking the series to the next level, as we move from the 5th edition into the 6th.

As you may be aware, the 14 volumes of the WHO Classification of Tumours (WHO Blue Books) 5th edition have been completed by my predecessor, Dr Ian Cree, and the beta versions are now available online, at https://tumourclassification.iarc.who.int/. Currently, the copy editing, layout, and printing of the final 6 volumes of the 5th edition are ongoing, and the planning for the 6th edition is underway.

Earlier this year we conducted a survey to get feedback on the 5th edition and prepare for the 6th edition, and we would like to thank all those who participated in that effort, which has provided us with invaluable feedback and has helped to lay the foundation for the 6th edition overall. There have been many changes in the 5th edition, and the challenge for the 6th will be to revise the existing classification and the text as necessary based on new evidence, to improve the levels of evidence cited, and to provide high quality images which can serve as international standard.

The first 6th edition volumes that we will begin with are the Digestive System, Breast, and Female Genital Tumours volumes, and we invite you, as an end user of the classification, to provide us with any specific feedback you may have related to each of these first three volumes.

We would be very grateful if you could complete this short, anonymous survey at your earliest possible convenience (until October 15, 2023) - it should only take a few minutes of your valuable time.

Thank you again for your trust and your involvement in the WHO Classification of Tumours community.

Sincerely,

Dilani Lokuhetty, on behalf of the WHO Classification of Tumours Team
